Toyota plans to produce 9.7 mln vehicles globally this year

In spite of announcing yet another production halt due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Toyota Motor Corp said on Wednesday that it would stick to its goal of producing 9.7 million vehicles globally this fiscal year.

After being frequently forced to reduce output in the April–June quarter due to COVID lockdowns in China and a global chip scarcity, the Japanese automaker is attempting to increase production in earnest.

At its Motomachi factory in central Japan, the business said that it will temporarily halt three lines of manufacturing in September. That comes after this week’s Monday and Tuesday announcements of suspensions at its Tsutsumi factory.

According to Toyota, it anticipates producing 850,000 vehicles globally in September and hopes to increase production through November, depending on people and part availability.
