Saudi Arabia to host Asian Winter Games in 2029 at NEOM

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia announced that it has been awarded the right to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games in a mountain resort that would be constructed as part of the Gulf Arab state’s showpiece NEOM project, which will cost 500 billion dollars.

According to the website for the project, the TROJENA development is scheduled to be finished in 2026. When it is, it will include opportunities for outdoor skiing, as well as a man-made freshwater lake and a natural reserve.

We are proud to announce that we have won the bid to host AWG TROJENA2029 as the first country in west Asia,” Saudi Arabia‘s Minister of Sports, Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal, said on Twitter. “With the unlimited support by the Saudi leadership and HRH Crown Prince to the sport sector, we are proud to announce that we have won the bid.”

The most ambitious undertaking undertaken by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as part of the kingdom’s Vision 2030 growth plan to lessen reliance on oil and restructure the economy, including the development of sports, is the New Economy of the Middle East (NEOM).

NEOM will be a high-tech development on the Red Sea that spans 26,500 square kilometers (10,230 square miles) and will contain a zero-carbon city called “The Line” in addition to industrial and logistical zones.
