Australian children can get mental health issues post Cyclone Gabrielle: UN

UNICEF Australia sounds the alarm that children in disaster-stricken areas require specialized disaster recovery assistance, and their well-being cannot be left to chance.

Following the devastating flooding that occurred in New South Wales and Queensland in February and March of the previous year, thousands of young children in Australia need intense treatment for their mental health.

Twenty-two individuals lost their lives, and similar to what happened here, the severity and speed of the storm meant that many people were caught with little time to leave, which led to rescues on rooftops.

Nicole Breeze, who works with UNICEF Australia, has been contributing to a collaborative effort assessing the need of children affected by the floods.
