Sweden vows protection of Ukraine-victim children

To find temporary safety from Russian aggression, over seven million people in Ukraine have been compelled to leave their homes and go to neighbouring European nations.

Women and kids make up the vast majority of the population. Children are frequently among the most vulnerable in times of war and strife. Sweden and Ukraine have now signed a cooperation agreement to continue assisting and safeguarding children.

Ukrainian children greatly need essential public services like other children in precarious conditions. To continue supporting Ukraine socially, the ministries of health and social Affairs of Sweden and Ukraine have collaborated. The agreement will be centred on efforts to help children and their families and rehabilitate social services in Ukraine. Due to Russia’s actions, Ukraine will have a significant need for this for a while.

As Minister of Social Services, it is crucial to me and the government to strengthen children’s rights and assist children in need. Supporting Ukraine is one of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU’s top goals; therefore, I’m glad the agreement is in place, says Camilla Waltersson Grönvall, Minister for Social Services.

The cooperative agreement will be put into practice right now. The help must address Ukraine’s current needs, and a thorough discussion is required to identify potential growth sectors and build a strategy for putting support measures into action. It is crucial to draw lessons from existing support programs that have received Swedish funding, for instance, through development aid organizations. There is currently planning for concrete support to target children and young people.

– Sweden has long offered assistance in medical aid, military supplies, and other forms of humanitarian aid. This cooperation agreement marks the beginning of another crucial phase in Sweden’s contribution to Ukraine and focuses on knowledge and experience sharing to benefit children and young people. According to Ms Waltersson Grönvall, it is a forward-looking, hopeful project.
