During a high-level dialogue, South Korea and Australia decided to strengthen their cooperation on e-commerce and other digital trade issues, according to the country’s industry ministry.
South Korea and Australia have agreed to increase cooperation on e-commerce and other digital trade issues. Both sides committed to sharing their digital trade policy measures and to cooperating closely on the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) e-commerce negotiations as well as further conversations on regional digital trade standards in the future.
A videoconference was arranged between Kim Wan-ki, chairman of South Korea’s trade policy office, which is part of the trade ministry, and Elisabeth Bowes, the first assistant secretary of the Australian government’s foreign and trade department.
The two countries discussed a wide variety of topics related to digital trade, including trade laws and regulations as well as the transformation of the industry to digital, according to a report from a news agency.
Also agreed upon was the need to aggressively communicate related information and expand collaborative projects in order to discover new business opportunities in the digital sector and to assist their respective sectors in their transition to a digital world.
A communiqué from the ministry stated that the two countries are “like-minded partners” that “share comparable policy goals and commitments” in the face of changing global trade conditions.
