According to family members, an 89-year-old woman and her 12-year-old grandson were assaulted by two pit bulls at a property west of Denver last week, and the attack ultimately resulted in the woman’s death.
According to reports from the Golden Police Department, the two canines were assaulted in the afternoon on Wednesday, and both of them have since been put down. On Sunday, the relatives of the deceased woman provided confirmation that she had passed away, and they stated that the son, who had suffered significant injuries, had been discharged from the hospital.
The identities of the victims have not been made public.
Officers who were dispatched to the location of the incident discovered blood leading into the house and proceeded straight to the backyard, where the dogs were still attacking the victim. They attempted to separate the dogs from the victim using shock guns and shotguns with less lethal ammunition, but until further officers came, they were unsuccessful.
The toddler, who was able to flee the assault and take sanctuary at the home of a neighbour, was ultimately transported by helicopter to a children’s hospital, while his grandma was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The youngster and his grandmother were reportedly familiar with the dogs, according to the police. Golden does not have any rules that restrict the ownership of particular breeds of dogs.
