Hong Kong: £20m lost in deepfake video call scam

The Hong Kong police are investigating a case where an employee from an undisclosed company alleges she fell victim to a deepfake video conference scam, resulting in the transfer of HK$200 million (£20 million) of the company’s funds to fraudsters.

According to the police statement, the employee received video conference calls from individuals posing as senior company officers, instructing her to transfer the funds to specified bank accounts.
