Greek superfoods that have lots of health benefits!

The popularity of superfoods is growing in recent times, and Greek cuisine is full of them. This is because these natural foods are packed with a high level of minerals, antioxidants, vitamins, and many benefits that help live a longer and healthier life. Some of them have been known and used since ancient times come from Greece. Greece is home to one of the healthiest diets in the world: the Mediterranean diet.

Mastic from Chios – Chios, one of the North Aegean Greek Island and home to the famous product mastic. This is a sort of aromatic resin collected from the Mastic tree and priced all over the Middle East, Europe, the Mediterranean for its distinct taste. It is mostly used in baking and sweets. It also reduces high cholesterol levels and can prevent many digestive issues such as Crohn’s disease and stomach ulcers.

Figs from Evia: Dried figs are rich in natural fiber and help in weight control. It also helps to regulate blood pressure and improve ligament health because of its high potassium content. It is also rich in magnesium, which important for the healthy functions of the nervous system, bone health, and metabolism.

Extra virgin olive oil: It has extremely powerful antioxidant properties, protects against heart disease, and prevents strokes and heart attacks. Some expert says it can prevent breast and rectal cancer. It also eliminates Helicobacter pylori, the main cause of stomach ulcers. The leaves from the olive tree are also known as a superfood because the extract helps reduce sugar levels and blood pressure. They can be dried and use to make natural tea.

Carob: It is the fruit of the Carob tree. The fruit is rich in minerals and vitamins and particularly high in calcium. It contains polyphenols that function as antioxidants, so it is considered digestive. On pH, it also has alkaline effects.

Dittany of Crete: Research has proved that this special type of dittany has great antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.
