A mid-air accident between two light aircraft in the US state of California on Thursday resulted in at least two fatalities. According to a tweet from the mayor of Watsonville, the incident happened while the two planes were attempting to land at Watsonville Municipal Airport just before 3pm.
“After two aircraft were trying to land at Watsonville Municipal Airport and collided, numerous agencies arrived. Multiple fatalities have been reported, according to the city’s official Twitter account. “Investigation is ongoing; updates will be provided.”
Two passengers were in a twin-engine Cessna 340, and a pilot was in a single-engine Cessna 152, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. It was unclear right away if anyone made it. According to the media, nobody was hurt on the ground.
The crash is being looked into by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
