As a result of the company’s realization that the program does not satisfactorily address all of its customers’ requirements, Amazon.com, Inc. will discontinue its live testing of the automated delivery robot known as “Amazon Scout,” according to a statement that was sent out via email by a spokesperson for the company on Thursday.
Alisa Carroll, a spokesperson for Amazon, stated that the company would not be giving up on the project entirely, despite the fact that it is currently “reorienting” or “scaling back” the program. Amazon will work with the employees who were involved in the program to help match them to other open roles within the organization.
In 2019, Amazon began testing the fully electric Scout in the state of Washington. The Scout was about the size of a small cooler and moved along the sidewalks at a walking pace. After the success of those tests, Amazon expanded the program to include testing in Southern California, Georgia, and Tennessee.
