The Australian Government started looking for a new Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) president and extra members today. This is a crucial development in the Government’s revamping of Australia’s administrative review framework.
The Australian Government declared on December 16th, 2022, that a new administrative review body would take the role of the AAT. The AAT President will serve as the new body’s first president after it has been created.
The incoming President must possess the abilities, knowledge, and character necessary to guide the AAT through significant and exciting reform. The position is for a maximum of seven years and is full-time.
Well-qualified persons can apply for the position directly or be nominated by a third party, guaranteeing that the recruiting process draws the most potent candidates available.
To alleviate the existing backlog of cases in the AAT and shorten wait times, the Government has earmarked $63.4 million over two years for at least 75 extra members.
This is a beautiful chance for those who meet the necessary qualifications to contribute significantly to the most substantial change to the federal administrative review system in decades. The updated AAT Appointment Guidelines shall be followed for all future appointments.
The Australian Government is committed to giving the community a dependable federal administrative review body representing their interests. This transparent and merit-based selection procedure is a crucial component of that commitment.
