According to the defence ministry of Russia, the Ukrainian government has launched an attack on Moscow using a drone, which has resulted in flight diversions away from Vnukovo International Airport.
According to reports, five drones were utilized in the attack that took place on Tuesday, which also targeted locations in the greater territory surrounding the city.
The Ukrainian government has not admitted any involvement in the alleged attack.
At this time, there are no longer any restrictions in place at Vnukovo Airport, which is one of Moscow’s three international airports. There were disruptions to flights departing from several countries, including Turkey, as well as the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.
According to the Ministry of Defense, air defence systems were successful in bringing down four of the drones that were flying around the Moscow region. A fifth plane was prevented from crashing by electronic interception.
A spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, Maria Zakharova, made this statement on Telegram. “An attempt by the Kyiv regime to attack a zone where civil infrastructure is located, including an airport that receives international flights, is a new terrorist act,” she added.
According to a report by the Telegram channel Shot, one of the drones or a component from one of the drones crashed into a building in the village of Krivosheino. After that, the building was consumed by flames.
According to Russian official media, another drone has gone down in Kubinka, which is located approximately 22 miles (36 kilometres) to the southwest of Vnukovo airport, which is located to the southwest of the city.
The media is doing its own investigation in an effort to independently confirm this information.
This is not the first time that Moscow has been targeted by an attack using drones. In May, Russia’s Ministry of Defense stated that at least eight drones were responsible for causing some minor damage.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February of 2022, this was the very first occasion that the city has been targeted by numerous drones at the same time. Kyiv has denied having any involvement in the incident.
According to the mayor of Sumy, which is located in northern Ukraine, the number of people killed as a result of an attack by a Russian drone on the city of Sumy on Monday has increased to three. Other persons suffered various degrees of injury.
