Shen Yun, which has ties to the Falun Gong spiritual movement, is banned in mainland China and has frequently been criticised by Beijing. The group is due to hold a series of concerts across Australia in the coming weeks, and the threat email referenced those planned shows. At this stage, there is no evidence linking the Chinese government or Chinese diplomatic missions to the incident, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects.
In the aftermath of the evacuation, Albanese urged Australians to avoid inflaming tensions, and highlighted the importance of maintaining respectful and civil discourse amid political and cultural disagreements. He underscored that while security protocols worked as intended, the broader implication of such threats must be recognised as a concerning trend.
