The parent company of US President Donald Trump’s social media platform Truth Social has reported a massive financial loss of more than $400 million in the first quarter of 2026, with the company attributing the setback largely to declining cryptocurrency valuations.
Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which owns Truth Social, disclosed in its latest financial filing that it suffered a net loss of nearly $406 million during the January–March quarter, despite generating less than $1 million in revenue during the same period. The sharp losses were reportedly linked to the falling value of the company’s digital asset investments and equity holdings.
According to reports, the company earned around $870,000 to $900,000 in quarterly revenue while continuing to maintain a market valuation of over $2 billion. The mismatch between its revenue and market worth has once again drawn attention from financial analysts and investors, many of whom have questioned the sustainability of the business model behind Truth Social.
TMTG said that a substantial portion of the losses were “non-cash” in nature and primarily resulted from unrealised declines in the value of its cryptocurrency-related assets. The company had previously announced plans to invest heavily in the digital asset sector, including billions of dollars allocated toward cryptocurrency and financial technology expansion. However, the recent downturn in crypto prices appears to have severely impacted those investments.
The financial disclosure comes at a time when Truth Social continues to face challenges in expanding its user base and competing with major social media platforms. Created after Trump was banned from mainstream social networks following the January 6 Capitol riot in 2021, Truth Social positioned itself as a “free speech” alternative platform aimed largely at conservative users. While the app initially generated considerable public attention, it has struggled to match the reach and influence of larger competitors.
Reports suggest that the company’s stock has also experienced significant volatility since going public. Market analysts have frequently described TMTG as a “meme stock,” with its valuation driven more by political enthusiasm and speculative trading than by traditional financial performance. Despite repeated quarterly losses and limited advertising revenue, supporters and investors continue to view the platform as politically influential because of Trump’s direct involvement and regular use of the app for public communication.
Interim CEO Kevin McGurn defended the company’s performance, stating that TMTG still maintains a strong balance sheet and sufficient cash reserves to continue its expansion plans. The company has also indicated that it is working on future technology partnerships and infrastructure projects aimed at broadening its operations beyond social media.
The latest earnings report adds to a series of financial struggles faced by Trump Media in recent years. Earlier filings had also revealed heavy annual losses, weak advertising income, and concerns raised by auditors over the company’s long-term financial stability. Even so, Truth Social remains central to Trump’s digital outreach strategy as he continues to use the platform extensively for political messaging and public announcements.
