In response to ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, the Government of Australia will contribute an additional $4.45 million to the relief effort.
The International Committee of the Red Cross will utilize this money to give immediate life-saving protection and support to those in need, including food, water, and emergency medical supplies. These necessities will be distributed using donations.
Overnight, Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Ministerial-level Pledging Event to help the Humanitarian Response in Sudan and the Region. The event was held to pledge help for the humanitarian response in Sudan and the region.
To provide humanitarian aid in the region and assist people fleeing the conflict in Sudan, Australia has already pledged $5 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and $1 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The violence has resulted in over two million people being displaced within Sudan and across its borders, and about half of the population needs humanitarian help and protection. Australia is genuinely concerned for the communities devastated by the conflict.
This humanitarian assistance will help to ease the immediate suffering. Still, the only way ahead for the people of Sudan is for a political solution to be discussed and agreed upon by all parties.
The government of Australia strongly urges all parties involved in the conflict to ensure that humanitarian organizations are granted safe and uninterrupted access to the population of Sudan so that they can provide aid that could save their lives.

People who are vulnerable and who are facing war and food insecurity will receive critical assistance thanks to additional money from Australia.
