We are extremely troubled by the destruction and loss of life that is taking place in Sudan. We demand that all involved parties come to an understanding about putting an end to the hostilities for good.
The only way ahead for the people of Sudan is through the process of negotiation to find a solution.
The fighting has made the ongoing humanitarian situation in Sudan even worse. Prior to the conflict, Sudan was already experiencing significant levels of food insecurity and a substantial number of people had been forced to flee their homes.
We urge all parties involved in the war to abide by international law and safeguard civilians, particularly those working in the fields of medicine and humanitarian relief.
It is absolutely necessary for humanitarian organizations to have secure access to the people of Sudan in order to provide aid that could save their lives.
The people of Sudan and the Australian-Sudanese community have the government of Australia’s sincere condolences in the wake of the recent tragic events.
