As the country is regularly reporting new cases of Omicron variants of Covid 19, the Australian government on Saturday said that they may soon roll out anti-Covid vaccines for children.
The Federal health minister, Greg Hunt, announced on Saturday that the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation is deciding on inoculating Pfizer vaccine to the children, as young as five years of age. The vaccine can be rolled out from December end or January 2022.
The decision came after the Victoria region reported nine Covid related deaths and the NSW confirming new Omicron cases every day.
While talking to the media, the Health Minister said that Therapeutic Goods Administration will advise the country and then the Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation will submit their response. Once both the organisations will give green signal, we will start rolling out the vaccine doses to the pediatric population in January, he said.
Victoria reported nine Covid deaths on Saturday while the state recorded 1365 fresh infections. 288 patients are admitted in hospital while 44 or severely infected and are admitted in intensive care units.
Meanwhile on Saturday, NSW confirmed 325 fresh cases and one fatality. There are as many as 13 Omicron cases in the state, so far.
Earlier, the Australian government had said that the research institutes and pharmaceutical company have created a new Covid vaccine candidate in Australia’s state of Victoria and its clinical trials will begin next year.
So far, the manufacturers have manufactured 450 doses of the vaccine and around 150 people will be vaccinated in the first phase of clinical trials. The companies are expected to submit its clinical trial results later in 2022.
As per the medical experts, the vaccine will provide protection against the future variants of the COVID-19.
