The position of Australia’s next High Commissioner to Singapore has been revealed to be filled by Allaster Cox, according to an announcement made by Australia.
The relationship between Australia and Singapore is one of our most comprehensive and comprehensive ones, and it is founded on the strategic and economic interests that both countries share.
Our ties with Singapore are supported by a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership encompassing various topics, including commerce, defence, the green economy, science and innovation, the digital economy, education, and the arts.
Both defence and security are areas in which Australia and Singapore work closely together. We have been working with each other for a long time to contribute to the area’s security, mainly through the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting-Plus framework and the Five Power Defence Arrangements.
Additionally, our economies are closely intertwined with one another. Australia’s seventh-greatest source of foreign direct investment comes from Singapore, making it the country’s fifth-largest trading partner.
Mr Cox is an experienced career official working for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Most recently, he was First Assistant Secretary in the Southeast Asia Strategy and Development Division.
In the past, he has held positions overseas, such as those of Ambassador to Vietnam and High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, as well as those of Deputy Head of Mission in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Since 2021, I would like to thank the Honorable Will Hodgman, who served as Australia’s High Commissioner in Singapore. You were instrumental in furthering Australia’s interests there.
