The Local Roads & Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program assists all of Australia’s local councils so that they may complete high-priority local road and community infrastructure projects in their region. These projects generate employment opportunities and provide communities with long-term benefits.
The Department has decided to extend the construction time for all of the projects that have been approved for the LRCI Program Phases 1, 2, and 3, beginning in April 2023. The new deadline for project delivery is the 30th of June, 2024. For councils to receive the additional funding, they will need to submit a signed letter of variation to the grant agreement they already signed. This notice of variation will address Phases 1, 2, and 3 of the project.
The government of Australia is dedicated to working in cooperation with local governments, as well as those of the states and territories, to construct infrastructure and provide services that benefit local communities and encourage employment opportunities there.
To ensure that this assistance is maintained, the Australian government has pledged an extra $250 million to the LRCI program’s Phase 4 and the $500 million already announced. This brings the total amount of money that the Australian government has committed to the initiative to $3.25 billion.
Beginning in July 2023, councils will have access to their Phase 4 cash allocations, and the projects are expected to be completed by the end of June 2025.
In the following weeks and months, the Department of Infrastructure, along with Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts will finish the guidelines and grant agreements they have been working on.
