An internal memo from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada stated that Canada will grant citizenship to 300,000 people this year. According to the memo, Canada will handle 285,000 decisions in total and 30,000 new citizens by March 31, 2023.
According to the report, the citizenship target implies that 300,000 qualified applicants must take the oath of citizenship in person or virtually.
This represents a significant increase over the previous year and even surpasses the pre-Covid pandemic targets of 2019–2020, when Canada processed 253,000 citizenship applications.
According to the report, Canada is “well on track to hit target.”
The memo also stated that although the procedure currently faces many difficulties, Canada is working to make it easier so that citizenship can be awarded in a reasonable amount of time.
The memo noted that IRCC has completely abandoned paper applications in favor of a digital citizenship application process, which has aided in streamlining the application process for applicants and decreasing backlogs.
Following a significant backlog caused by the Covid pandemic, the changes were made.
The memo stated that there were 413,000 grant applications in the grant inventory as of last June. However, the memo stated that almost 80% of new applications would be processed in accordance with service standards.
