A Delta Air Lines jet carrying 80 people crash-landed at Toronto’s airport on Monday, flipping upside down and injuring at least 15 passengers, though no fatalities were reported, officials confirmed.
The flight, Endeavor Air 4819, had departed from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was attempting to land in Canada’s largest city around 3:30 p.m. when the incident occurred, according to the airline.
Emergency services reported that 15 people sustained injuries, including three in critical condition—a child, a man in his 60s, and a woman in her 40s. All injured passengers were transported to hospitals by ambulance or helicopter.
Dramatic footage circulating on local news and social media showed passengers stumbling away from the overturned CRJ-900 aircraft, shielding themselves from strong winds. Fire crews were seen spraying water on the plane as smoke drifted from the wreckage.
Toronto Pearson Airport acknowledged the incident on social media, stating that emergency teams were on-site and that all passengers and crew had been accounted for. The airport temporarily suspended all flights following the crash.
Passenger John Nelson posted a video on Facebook showing the overturned plane, writing, “Our plane crashed. It’s upside down,” but assured that most passengers appeared unharmed and were evacuating.
Delta confirmed that its connection flight, operated by Endeavor, had been involved in an “incident” and promised to provide more details as they became available. A spokesperson stated that initial reports indicated no fatalities.
The crash occurred following a severe snowstorm that struck eastern Canada on Sunday, bringing strong winds and freezing temperatures to Toronto. Airlines had added flights on Monday to compensate for cancellations caused by the storm.
Federal Transport Minister Anita Anand confirmed the number of people onboard and said she was closely monitoring the situation. Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed relief that there were no casualties and assured that authorities were providing assistance.
Canada’s Transportation Safety Board has dispatched a team to investigate the crash.
The incident comes amid a series of recent air accidents in North America, including a fatal mid-air collision in Washington involving a U.S. Army helicopter and a passenger plane, as well as a medical transport plane crash in Philadelphia that resulted in seven deaths.
