In response to these developments, the U.S., under the Trump administration, imposed sanctions on four ICC officials, including judges, accusing them of overstepping their mandate and interfering with national sovereignty. These sanctions, which include asset freezes, have been condemned by human rights organizations and the ICC itself as acts of intimidation aimed at obstructing international justice. Despite these pressures, the court continues to stand firm on its mission to deliver justice impartially and independently.
While the ICC represents a significant milestone in the development of international law, it has not been without controversy. Critics have argued that the court disproportionately focuses on African nations, and some question its efficiency and enforcement power, especially in cases involving powerful non-member states. Moreover, its reliance on member states to arrest and hand over suspects often hampers the progress of justice.
