In order to advance food production studies outside of Earth and assist exploration missions, Redwire Corporation said on Tuesday that it would launch the first commercial space greenhouse in the spring of 2019.
According to Dave Reed, project manager for Redwire’s greenhouse project, the project will aid in providing crucial insights for NASA’s Artemis missions and beyond.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Artemis program seeks to send astronauts to the moon and build a permanent lunar settlement as a prelude to future human exploration of Mars.
Dewey Scientific, a business that develops commercial agriculture technology, will be the company’s first client, according to Redwire, who also added that the initiative will improve humanity’s capacity to cultivate food in space.
