Most Honorable The deployment of a Royal Canadian Air Force CP-140 Aurora Air Detachment to Japan as part of Operation (Op) NEON was announced by Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence. The Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF’s) contribution to the international effort to support the execution of UNSC sanctions against North Korea is called Op NEON.
This deployment shows Canada’s unwavering dedication to advancing peace and enhancing regional stability as part of its Indo-Pacific Strategy.
The CP-140 Aurora will keep an eye out for any possible maritime sanctions evasion operations for about six weeks, particularly any ship-to-ship transfers of fuel and other goods that are prohibited by the UNSC.
This deployment demonstrates how much priority Canada places on maintaining UNSC sanctions against North Korea as well as the security of its partners and allies in the Indo-Pacific region. Canada’s commitment to the rules-based international order is continued by its contributions to regional security, resilience, and peace.
Both Op NEON and Op PROJECTION, Canada’s continuing naval forward presence operations in the Indo-Pacific, will be supported by HMCS Montréal, which is also its route there with a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter aboard.
“The Indo-Pacific Region is essential to maintaining international security, and via Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, we will keep fortifying our alliances with our allies there. Together, we are advancing an open and free Indo-Pacific region and defending the international norms that ensure our collective safety. I am grateful for our robust partnership with Japan, one of Canada’s key defense allies in the Indo-Pacific, which is founded on common principles, business ties, and interpersonal ties. Most Honorable Minister of National Defense Anita Anand stated.
The need to collaborate closely with our allies in the Indo-Pacific has never been greater than it is right now, and the Canadian Armed Forces are essential to implementing worthwhile, concrete, high-impact programs in the region. This Royal Canadian Air Force Air Detachment’s deployment to the Indo-Pacific will give us strong capabilities to collaborate with our allies to improve global cooperation and stability in the region. Commander of the RCAF, Lieutenant-General Eric Kenny, remarked.
