According to reports from eyewitnesses and local media, the bodies of at least 51 villagers have been retrieved from a rural town in Benue state, located in Nigeria‘s central region.

According to the community youth leader Adakole Inalegu Daniel, who spoke with the BBC, residents, especially youth groups, they were continued searching the nearby bushes for other bodies.

They opened fire on everybody they saw as they made their way from the village market.
According to locals, many individuals who fled into the nearby brush were executed by gunfire and their heads severed from their bodies.
Even though security troops have been sent to the region, they have not been able to prevent the murderous attacks that have been going on.
Farmers accuse herders of using their animals to destroy their crops, while herders say farmers are cruel to their animals. Both sides blame the other for the conflict.
