Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.O) announced on Thursday that Russian military agents attempted to hack into Ukrainian, European Union, and American targets.
The software firm claimed in a blog post that a group it dubbed “Strontium” was utilising seven internet domains to spy on government bodies and think tanks in the EU and the US, as well as Ukrainian institutions including media organisations.
Any of the targets were not identified by name by Microsoft.
Strontium is Microsoft‘s codename for a hacker squad affiliated to Russia’s military intelligence organisation, also known as Fancy Bear or APT28.
A message left with the Russian Embassy in Washington was not immediately returned.
Since Russian soldiers invaded Ukraine in February, the country has been subjected to cyber efforts.
