Netflix Inc said on Wednesday that it is testing services, including one that will allow accounts to be shared outside of members’ households for a fee.
The features are being tested in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru, and will allow subscribers on the company’s standard and premium subscriptions to add up to two persons.
Netflix is also working on a feature that will allow basic, standard, and premium plan subscribers to transfer their profile information to a new account or a sub account while keeping data like watching history and personalised recommendations.
Netflix presently allows people to share their Netflix account if they live together. The intentions, however, have caused some misunderstanding about when and how accounts might be shared, according to the firm, which has hampered its capacity to invest in new material.
The corporation stated that it will test the features to see if they were useful before implementing them in other parts of the world.
Netflix lowered its growth estimates in January, estimating first-quarter customer additions to be less than half of Wall Street’s expectations, citing the late release of planned content as the reason.
