Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Expo 2020 Dubai announced on Friday that the major international cultural and business event being hosted by the United Arab Emirates will remain open to all countries going forward.
Russian officials have been barred from hosting or participating in significant events since the invasion began, despite the fact that the country has a prominent pavilion at the six-month world exhibition, which closes on March 31.
The following statement was made by an Expo 2020 Dubai representative in response to a question about Russia’s continued participation: “Expo 2020 Dubai is an international event focused on bringing people together to celebrate human progress and address challenges essential to our collective future.”
192 countries are participating in Expo, which was open to all countries of the world without exception. It is apolitical and accessible to all nations, according to the organisers.
The Russian Federation was not mentioned in the emailed message.
Russia and Ukraine are also taking part in the international fair.
For questions about Russia’s involvement in Expo 2020, the UAE’s foreign ministry referred to Expo 2020. When contacted for comment, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), which oversees world expos, did not react immediately.
