“We are all outraged about recent, horrifying tales of murder and brutality against women in this nation. We must take action because it is intolerable. We allowed these women—daughters, aunts, and friends—better. Women are not always the victims of violence”, said Amanda Rishworth, the Australian minister for social services, on Twitter.
She further added that we could bring about the change required to end this brutality if we all work together. Call 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) toll-free, day or night, if you need advice or help.
“These women, daughters, aunties and friends deserved better from us all”, she said.
At 29, Amanda was elected to represent Kingston in the House in 2007.
As the Minister for Social Services, Amanda is a part of the Federal Labor Cabinet.
Before this, Amanda served as the Youth and Early Childhood Education and Development Shadow Minister. She had previously served as the Shadow Minister for Defense Personnel and Veterans Affairs.
However, Australian residents slammed the minister and said women trapped in abusive marriages sometimes blame their situation on unlivable welfare payments.
When leaving is not a safe choice, one stays. It’s inescapable. You and your government ‘know’ this and can do something about it. Just increase the rate; quit acting as though you care.
