According to news organizations quoting law enforcement officials briefed on the situation, at least 40 individuals have been discovered dead inside a tractor-trailer near San Antonio, Texas.
In what is believed to be an attempt at migrant smuggling in South Texas, San Antonio media stated that there were 42 dead inside the truck. The vehicle was discovered adjacent to train tracks in a secluded region on the southern outskirts of the city, according to local media sources.
The incident has not yet received an official comment from San Antonio police.
Meanwhile, the Mexican consul was en route to the scene where dozens of people were discovered dead in a truck, according to Marcelo Ebrard, the country’s foreign minister. The nationalities of the victims are yet unclear, according to Ebrard in a tweet.
“Disaster in Texas. Supposedly choked in a trailer box. Consul on his way to the objective. We send our sympathies to the families and victims. Nationalities are unknown at this time,” he stated on Twitter.
If there were any Mexicans engaged in the event, the Mexican General Consulate in San Antonio tweeted that it would help them. Additionally, it mentioned that Consul General Ruben Minutti was his route to the site.
