Tamayo Perry, an actor from Pirates of the Caribbean, has died after a shark attack while surfing in Hawaii. Despite being brought to shore by jet ski, Perry, who also worked as a lifeguard, was declared dead by paramedics.
Perry played a buccaneer in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film, On Stranger Tides, which starred Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, and Geoffrey Rush. He also appeared in Lost, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Crush, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, and a Coca-Cola commercial. Born on Oahu’s east side, Perry had been a professional surfer for over a decade.
In his profile on Oahu Surfing Experience, where he worked as an instructor, Perry shared his adventures surfing “the world’s deadliest wave” and described himself as a “small-time island boy” who could compete with the best surfers globally. He mentioned a near-fatal accident several years ago caused by someone else’s “lack of awareness” but did not provide details.

Mayor Rick Blangiardi called Perry’s death a “tragic loss,” noting his legendary status and respect within the community.
