On Friday, Rivian Automotive Inc. (RIVN.O) announced that it will be recalling almost all of its vehicles due to a potential problem with a loose fastener that might cause a driver to lose control of the vehicle’s steering.
Rivian, a company based in California, is in the process of recalling approximately 13,000 vehicles because the company recently made the discovery that a fastener connecting the front upper control arm and steering knuckle may not have been “sufficiently torqued” in some vehicles, according to a statement issued by a company spokesperson.
This year, the electric car manufacturer has manufactured a total of 14,317 automobiles through the first nine months of the year.
Rivian said it became aware of seven reports that may or may not be related to the structural issue of torqued fastener and alerted the customers whose products were affected by the recall after it learned of the findings. There were no reports of any injuries being caused by this flaw.
In a letter to clients, Rivian Chief Executive RJ Scaringe warned them to exercise caution in the event that they encounter any problems by stating that “in extremely unusual conditions, the nut could completely loosen.”
According to what Scaringe said, “it’s crucial not to downplay the potential hazards involved,” which is why the company is offering to carry out this recall.
Rivian recalled approximately 500 of its 2022 R1T electric pickup trucks in the United States in May due to the possibility that the front passenger air bag may not deploy if a child is seated in the passenger seat.
