In a single protest on Friday, a lady stripped undressed on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival to display her body painted in the colors of the Ukrainian flag with the words “Stop Raping Us.”
The demonstrator, who was wearing red panties, yelled and posed for photographers before being escorted away by security personnel.
The prank temporarily disrupted the procession of visitors dressed up for the premiere of Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba’s film “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” directed by George Miller.
Last month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed investigators had received accusations of “hundreds of incidents of rape,” including sexual attacks on tiny children, in territories formerly controlled by Russian soldiers.
At the Cannes opening ceremony on Tuesday, Zelensky, a former actor, presented a video appeal for help for his homeland.
The festival has already made the war a significant focus, with a special showing of “Mariupolis 2,” a documentary by Lithuanian filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravicius, who was assassinated in Ukraine last month — purportedly by Russian forces.
On Saturday, the industry bazaar will honor Ukraine‘s suffering filmmakers, with one of the country’s most promising directors, Sergei Loznitsa, presenting “The Natural History of Destruction,” a documentary on the bombardment of German cities during WWII.
