A woman was airlifted to St George Hospital on Saturday afternoon after being injured on rocks at the remote Figure 8 pool near Burning Palms in the Royal National Park.
Three people were injured after being washed from rocks.
Burning Palms Surf Lifesaving Club members, a Westpac rescue helicopter and NSW Ambulance crews worked together to help the injured.
The two injured people were airlifted to waiting ambulances at Garie beach for treatment, while a more seriously woman was flown to St George Hospital.
Initial reports
At 3.30pm there were initial reports of several people being washed from rocks.Because of the remoteness of the Figure 8 pool, the initial response by Burning Palms lifesavers had to be by Inflatable Rescue Boats.
They began treating a 22-year-old woman who had head injuries and a 53-year-old woman with an injured ankle.
Rough surf conditions
The rescue came as warnings were issued for Saturday for rough surf conditions ranging from the South Coast to the Queensland border.
It forecast a peak south-easterly swell of up to 2.5 metres on Saturday morning, and decreasing during the day.
The warning specifically advised rock fisherman and people taking coastal walks close to the water’s edge.
