The Albanese Government will provide another $8 million, bringing the total to $18 million, to Australia’s response to the deadly earthquakes in Syria and Turkey.
With a focus on defending those made most vulnerable by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, this financing will offer life-saving support. Also, it will aid continuing search and rescue operations.
We will invest an additional $4.5 million in Turkey. Included in this is a $2 million grant to Australian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership to provide life-saving aid with an emphasis on defending those who were most at risk due to the earthquakes. The remaining monies will help with ongoing search and rescue operations as well as any new demands that develop as a result of this disaster.
The United Nations Population Fund in Syria will receive $3.5 million to offer maternity and child health services as well as to safeguard women and girls who lack adequate shelter. Moreover, Australia has pledged an additional $3 million to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Families all throughout the world, including those in Australia, who have lost their loved ones in earthquakes, have Australia’s sincerest condolences.
The ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Syria, where years of conflict have forced millions of people from their homes, has also been made worse by the earthquakes.
The Australian Government will donate $15 million through dependable partners to support Syrians devastated by the conflict and their host communities in Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan in addition to the earthquake response.
