During the first quarter of this year, Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) estimated that bogus or spam accounts accounted for less than 5 percent of the company’s monetizable daily active users.
In the first quarter of this year, the social media business had 229 million users who were fed advertisements.
The announcement comes only days after Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), who just announced a $44 billion bid to acquire Twitter, stated that one of his top goals would be to eliminate “spam bots” off the network.
Several risks were identified by Twitter in the filing, including whether advertisers would continue to spend money on the social media platform and “possible ambiguity surrounding our future objectives and strategy” until the agreement with Musk was completed.
