On Friday, President Joe Biden announced ten-year plans for the implementation of the United States Strategy to Promote Stability in partnership with Haiti, Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, Libya, and Coastal West Africa, which includes Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, and Togo. The United States of America works alongside various local partners toward the shared, long-term goals of conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
To assist locally driven solutions, increase resilience, and forge peaceful and democratic future, Strategy and these plans rely on lessons learned and find novel initiatives to support these answers. The US Department of State, United States Agency for the International Development (USAID), & the United States Department of Defense collaborate to advance diplomatic, developmental, security, and programmatic efforts.
This will be accomplished by facilitating greater coordination and collaboration at all levels. The US Department of State & United States Agency for International Development are working together to develop adaptable and flexible programs to strengthen our partnerships with local governments, civil societies, and civilian security organizations.
Civilian-military interaction, training and equipping of partner militaries, defence institutional capacity building, and the professionalization of security forces are all initiatives the Department of Defense supports. To ensure that our aid is appropriately coordinated with these plans, the Department of the Treasury is leading discussions with international financial institutions.
This endeavour draws on the bipartisan Global Fragility Act concept and continued engagement with Congressional leaders and key stakeholders. These stakeholders include local civil society, community leaders, academia, and the commercial sector. Together, this 10-year plans to collectively address the factors that lead to conflict and violence and support our partner countries in their pursuit of peace and prosperity. This will be accomplished through intensive coordination, continuous assessment, monitoring, and evaluation.
