Later this year, VietJet Aviation, a low-cost carrier in Vietnam, will introduce 13 new routes between that nation and India, the business announced on Monday. It also said it aimed to increase the number of Airbus A330 aircraft it operated.
According to a statement from VietJet, the new flights would connect Vietnam’s major cities and its tourist island of Phu Quoc with Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bangalore, New Delhi, and Mumbai.
According to VietJet Vice President Nguyen Thanh Son, “We currently emphasize extending and enhancing flight operations to India…to meet the surge in demand for both leisure and business travel.”
Currently, the airline runs four routes between Vietnam and India, connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with New Delhi and Mumbai.
As part of its fleet expansion strategy, VietJet, which currently has a fleet of 80 Airbus aircraft operating on about 100 routes, intends to increase the number of A330 widebody aircraft.
The airline, which has two A330s that are currently leased, stated that it plans to raise the number to at least 10 but did not provide a timeline.
