Ford Motor Company (F.N) announced on Friday that it is recalling 737,000 vehicles in the United States due to a part that could leak oil and a software problem that could make braking difficult.
The carmaker is recalling 345,451 Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport vehicles with 1.5L engines from 2020 to 2022 because the engine oil separator housing might split and leak oil, potentially causing an engine fire.
Ford said it had received reports of at least eight fires that could be related to the problem, but no injuries or crashes as a result. Dealers will check the oil separator for damage or oil leaks and, if necessary, replace the separator and seals.
A towed trailer equipped with an electric or electric-over hydraulic brake system may not brake. Ford is recalling 391,836 2021-2022 F-150, 2022 Ford Maverick, Expedition, Lincoln Avigator, F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 cars.
The integrated trailer brake control module software will be updated by dealers. Ford has received 67 reports of faulty function that could be related to the problem, but no crashes or injuries have been reported as a result of the recall.
