Ford Motor Company (F.N) is recalling over 3.3 million cars in North America because a broken or missing item might prevent the vehicle from shifting into the correct gear.
Ford claimed Wednesday in a petition with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that According to the government, the recall affects numerous 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge cars.
The recall affects slightly over 2.9 million vehicles in the United States and 394,000 in Canada.
The car may not shift into the correct gear if the shift cable bushing is broken or missing, or the vehicle may roll when the driver enters the ‘Park’ position.
Ford claimed it has received six reports of property damage and four instances of injuries allegedly caused by the recalled vehicles.
Ford informed the EPA that this is the company’s seventh recall related to the problem since 2018. In past shift cable part recalls, Ford recalled nearly 1.4 million cars globally.
Ford refused to reveal how many vehicles were affected by the new recall throughout the world.
Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) continued to discuss about field reports connected to cars that were not included in earlier recalls after an April recall due to the same issue.
“Despite low claim rates and anticipated failures, Ford advised a safety recall for the remaining cars in North America” with the specified shift cable bushing.
Ford says it found 1,630 warranty reports and 233 additional reports related to this issue between April 2015 and March 2022.
Dealers will repair the under-hood shift bushing and apply a protective cover to fix the problem. The replacement components will be made of a different material grade.
On Tuesday, Ford announced a recall of around 49,000 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles due to a component that might overheat and cause a loss of propulsion power.
To fix the problem, the carmaker will upgrade the vehicle software. In North America, Ford has received 286 warranty claims connected to the recall since July, according to the company.
Ford also recalled 53,103 four-door 2021-2022 Broncos on Wednesday due to the possibility of the passenger-side rear door being opened from within the vehicle while the child-safety lock is set to “ON.”
Dealers will examine and replace the passenger-side child safety lock and latch if necessary. There have been no crashes or injuries linked to the Bronco or Mach-E recalls, according to Ford.
With 38 recall efforts affecting 6.6 million cars this year, Ford tops all automakers in the United States.
