Australia sent an extra 2.2 million Pfizer vaccine doses to Vietnam on Saturday, bringing the total number of vaccine doses delivered to Vietnam to 7.8 million.
According to a UNICEF press statement, the final cargo of 3.6 million vaccine doses from Australia arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City as part of a larger shipment of 3.6 million vaccine doses from Australia to Vietnam in recent weeks.
With this action, Australia has completed its commitment to provide Vietnam with a total of 7.8 million doses of vaccine. In November 2021, the commitment was revised to reflect current circumstances.
UNICEF and the Vietnamese Ministry of Health collaborated on the job, which was accomplished through a procurement agreement.
In addition, in August of last year, Australia transferred 4.2 million AstraZeneca doses from its own stockpile with the United States.
Vietnam previously received a AUD60 million (more than $ 43 million) assistance package from Australia in exchange for purchasing a Pfizer vaccine.
In addition, Australia is collaborating with UNICEF to ensure that vaccines are distributed in a safe, effective, and equitable manner.
