In an effort to strengthen its position in Southeast Asia, China’s Xiaomi Corp. announced on Thursday that it has produced its first batch of smartphones in Vietnam.
The company stated in an email that the gadgets were made at a factory in the province of Thai Nguyen, which is north of the capital Hanoi. Partner DBG Technology of Xiaomi runs the facility.
In recent years, Vietnam has developed into a key regional manufacturing hub for manufacturers of electrical devices. The country exported $57.5 billion worth of smartphones last year, the majority of which were made by Samsung Electronics, an increase of 12.4%.
Xiaomi announced that the first shipment of its Vietnam-made smartphones had been delivered to a local distributor and that it would soon export handsets to Malaysia and Thailand in addition to other Southeast Asian countries.
Concerning its capability for production in Vietnam, the corporation gave no additional information.
