Mercedes-Benz announced on Saturday that it is recalling nearly a million older automobiles from around the world due to potential brake booster concerns.
It affects models from the ML, GL (BR 164), and R-Class (BR 251) series built between 2004 and 2015. In Germany, there are about 70,000 of them.
“We discovered that extensive corrosion in the joint region of the housing might impede the performance of the brake booster in certain of those cars,” Mercedes-Benz stated in a statement.
It warned that this might result in a higher brake pedal power required to slow the vehicle and/or a longer stopping distance.
Mercedes-Benz has begun the recall process right away.
Mercedes-Benz has already issued a recall for 292,000 ML, GL, and R-Class vehicles from the 2006 to 2012 model years owing to braking issues, advising owners to stop driving immediately.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the German automaker is issuing a voluntary “do not drive” recall owing to potentially corroded brake boosters, which might limit braking efficacy and increase the risk of a collision.
According to Mercedes-Benz USA, the defect has resulted in no accidents, injuries, or deaths.
According to the company, owners of afflicted vehicles will receive free towing. If a repair is necessary, a Mercedes dealer will assist with arranging alternate transportation.
