Mercedes-Benz is modifying its network of factories in order to produce a new line of high-end electric vehicles as it gets ready to make the changeover by the end of the decade.
By the end of this decade, compared to 2020, Mercedes wants to cut CO2 emissions per passenger car in half throughout the course of the vehicle’s life.
Joerg Burzer, board member for production and supply chain, stated that “we are prepared for the quick scaling of electric car volumes,” adding that the new arrangement was the result of discussions between management and labor representatives.
According to Mercedes, new models in the high end luxury, core luxury, and entry luxury classes will begin production at plants in Sindelfingen, Bremen, Rastatt, and Kecskemet in Hungary by the middle of the decade.
According to the statement, a production network with facilities on three continents will supply battery systems.
Mercedes-Benz stated in a statement that “the local manufacture of battery systems is a major success element for the Mercedes-Benz electric ramp-up and a vital component in being able to satisfy the worldwide demand for electric vehicles flexibly and effectively.”
