Council of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal has confirmed that the Council has the authority to consider the case brought against Russia by Australia and the Netherlands for the shooting down of Flight MH17.
This decision is a significant step in our collaborative efforts to hold those accountable for this heinous act of violence, which resulted in the deaths of 298 people, 38 of whom called Australia home. The Australian government made the decision.
Since May of this year, we have remained steadfast in our belief that the Russian Federation is accountable under international law for the shooting down of Flight MH17. As part of our ongoing efforts to hold Russia responsible for its actions, we will soon have the opportunity to provide the ICAO Council with our legal arguments and facts.
The determination of the Australian government to find the victims of the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions has not wavered.
