The 2021 Oscars that happened on 25 April 2021 on Sunday had a different, more relaxed vibe than previous years. Chloe Zhao became the 2nd ever woman to win the best director and the 1st woman of color to get the award. The best-supporting actress was on by Minari’s Youn Yuh-Jung, the 1st Korean acting to win the award. The best-supporting male was won by Daniel Kaluuya, which was his 1st Oscar. Anthony Hopkins won the best actor for The Father.
Nomadland, from Chloé Zhao, won the best actress for Frances McDormand and best picture. It won three Oscars overall. Tenet, Judas and the Black Messiah, Soul, Sound of Metal, Mank, The Father, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom received two awards. It was a big night for streaming services, too. Netflix won seven awards, the highest in the streaming service. Amazon Studio and Disney Plus won two awards each. Even Facebook won its 1st Oscar.
The award ceremony was held at both Union Station and Dolby Theatre. Due to the pandemic, the award ceremony was delayed and happened two months after the planned date. On 15 March 2021, the nominations were revealed by Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas.
