As per rumors a few weeks ago that Samsung would be replacing the Exynos-powered version by releasing a new, Qualcomm-powered, LTE-only version of the massively popular Galaxy S20 FE, the new SM-G780G model has silently launched in several markets, including Malaysia and Vietnam, with product listing in Sweden and Germany.
The new variant of the Galaxy S20 FE has now been listed on Samsung’s website in Germany with a New tag. The phone comes with 128GB of internal storage. This will be available in six colors Cloud Mint, Cloud Orange, Cloud Red, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Navy, Cloud White. As per the other specifications, the new phone is the same phone already familiar with here in the ”States, sans 5G. That means 6.5″ 120Hz 1080p OLED display, Snapdragon 865, 6GB of RAM ,identical cameras, and same dimensions.
Samsung is replacing the Exynos 990 version of the Galaxy S20 FE combined with the Snapdragon 865 version. This is not because of poor performance or thermal processing. There is a global chip shortage. It is possible that Samsung Electronics isn’t getting enough Exynos 990 units from Samsung LSI, forcing the company to replace the chipset altogether.
As Qualcomm said that 5G was outright mandatory on the Snapdragon 865, that’s also a little curious. It is not clear that the policy will no longer be enforced, or the company is simply loosening that rule for Samsung. This isn’t the first LTE-only S20 FE, either. The company has previously released an Exynos 990-powered LTE-only version of the phone, but that chip was not liked by many. There were widespread reports of overheating and thermal throttling. Last year’s Galaxy S20 FE received positive reviews.
The company has not revealed many details about the phone release, so nothing cannot be said about the timeline or the total number of markets expected to get the phone. If rumors are believed, this new version could be launched in all the countries where the Exynos 990 version was launched. Between the two versions of the phones, there might not be any price difference. Due to the Snapdragon chipset, better performance can be expected.
