The Uluru Statement from the Heart’s aspiration for First Nations peoples to have a voice in parliament is supported by UNICEF Australia.
We aim to uphold children’s and adolescents’ rights to better their lives. We firmly believe every kid has the right to live, grow, and receive the help they need to realize their full potential. However, we know that First Nations children in Australia face inequities and that continuing business as usual is no longer an option.
Our dedication to giving children and young people a voice in decisions that affect their lives is at the Heart of all we do. UNICEF observes improved outcomes when every child and adolescent is given this chance.
The same involvement principle is required to improve outcomes for First Nations communities in Australia. To build more equitable future for all Australian children, The Voice to Parliament is a crucial first step.
Contrary to simple law, which is quickly amended, recognition in the Constitution will also ensure that this significant shift is durable and long-lasting.
It can also put Australia on a route to reconciliation, which will make us a more peaceful and cohesive community and better reflect our unique cultural identity.
The Uluru Statement from the Heart’s line, “When we have control over our destiny, our children will thrive,” sums it up perfectly. They will navigate two different realities, and their culture will benefit their nation.
