The United States Department of Defense (DoD) announced today that further security assistance will be provided to address Ukraine’s key defence and security requirements.
Since August 2021, the Biden Administration has been authorized to make forty-one draws of materiel from DoD stockpiles for the Ukraine. This authorisation comes into effect today.
This assistance package, which has a potential value of up to $500 million, includes key capabilities to support Ukraine’s counteroffensive operations, strengthen its air defences to assist Ukraine in protecting its people, as well as additional armoured vehicles, anti-armour systems, critical munitions, and other equipment to assist Ukraine in pushing back against Russia’s aggressive war.
The following are some of the capabilities included in this package:
additional ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, that is (HIMARS); additional munitions for Patriot air defense systems; Stinger anti-aircraft systems; additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems;
systems for eliminating obstacles using demolition weapons and equipment;
the machinery used for mine clearance;
artillery rounds with calibres of 155mm and 105mm;
30 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, 25 Stryker Armored Personnel Carriers, and 10 M113A1 Light Armored Vehicles will be used.
TOW missiles are tube-launched, optically tracked, and wire-guided munitions.
anti-armor technology developed by Javelin;
anti-armor systems designated as AT-4;
Rockets designed to penetrate armour; High-speed anti-radiation missiles (HARMs); Precision aerial munitions;
Weapons of small calibre and more than 22 million rounds of ammunition for small guns and grenades;
Systems for thermal imaging and night vision devices;
Instrumentation for testing and diagnosis used to aid in the servicing and repair of vehicles;
generators, spare parts, and several pieces of field equipment are all included.
The United States of America is committed to continuing its collaboration with its allies and partners in order to address Ukraine’s immediate demands on the battlefield as well as its longer-term requirements for assistance in the area of security.
