The Department of Defense (DoD) announced that a Presidential Drawdown of security assistance had been authorized to fulfil Ukraine’s urgent security and defence demands. Since August 2021, the Biden Administration has drawn down equipment from DoD stocks for Ukraine thirty times, totalling up to $2.5 billion.
It has hundreds of armoured vehicles, vital assistance for Ukraine’s air defence, and other crucial capabilities like extra munitions for NASAMS, eight Avenger air defence systems, and other critical capabilities. 59 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) outfitted with 295,000 rounds of 25mm ammo and 590 TOW anti-tank missiles; 20,000 155mm artillery rounds, approximately 600 precision-guided 155mm artillery rounds, 95,000 105mm artillery rounds; about 11,800 120mm mortar rounds, 90 Stryker Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) with 20 mine rollers, 350 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), more ammunition like High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), and; Over 3,000,000 rounds of small arms ammunition, 12 ammunition support vehicles, six command post vehicles, 22 tactical vehicles to tow guns, 2,000 anti-armour rockets, Claymore anti-personnel munitions, night vision devices, spare parts, and other field gear are all included.
The disastrous effects of Russia’s brutal conflict in Ukraine are again made clear by the Kremlin’s most recent airstrikes against Ukraine’s vital infrastructure. To support Ukraine’s layered air defence, this package includes more NASAMS ammunition and Avenger air defence systems. Ukraine will have two brigades of armoured capability thanks to the 59 Bradley IFVs in this package, the 50 Bradleys already committed on January 6, and the 90 Stryker APCs.
Since the Biden Administration took over, the US has provided Ukraine with security assistance totalling more than $27.4 billion. The United States has given Ukraine security aid totalling more than $29.5 billion since 2014 and more than $26.7 billion since the start of Russia’s unprovoked and barbaric invasion on February 24, 2022.
